School Bus Driver
Job Description
Burnett Transit, school bus contractor for the
Spencer, Colby and Abbotsford school districts currently has positions
available for regular route school bus drivers for the 2007 – 2008
school year.
Depending on the individual route the departure and
return times may vary but generally the routes depart about 7:00 a.m.
and return to the garage about 8:15 a.m. The afternoon routes are
slightly longer (1.25 – 1.5 hours) due to the loading time at school.
No experience is necessary – we will provide
training. We reimburse all costs associated with obtaining your CDL
(Commercial Driver License) including your updated personal driver
license. (Very few companies reimburse the cost of updating your
personal license.) The cost of obtaining your CDL can vary but include a
pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, physical, practice driving
license, road test fee and finally the updated personal license. These
fees will range from $175.00 to $250.00. Again, we will reimburse all of
these costs.
All of our equipment is garaged in heated
buildings. We employ only Master Certified ASE technicians – the only
school bus company in Central Wisconsin to do so. All of our school
buses are forward control (flat nosed) because they are proven to be
safer, easier to maneuver and more reliable.
Our pay scale is based upon the length of the
route, number of passengers (load factor) and the difficulty of the
route. For instance some routes have very few turn-arounds and some have
many turn arounds. The shortest and easiest route would have starting
pay of about $18.00 per route or $36.00 per day. A longer, more
challenging route would have slightly higher pay of about $20.00 per
route or $40.00 per day. Please recall that these amounts are based on
about 2.5 to 3 hours per day; so the amount per hour is about $14.50 to
$16.00 per hour. We also offer a “summer pay” program that is unique to
any school bus company in Wisconsin. We devised a formula that takes
into consideration how long the driver has been with Burnett Transit,
how long the bus route was for the preceding year (in miles), and now
many students rode the bus on the average. All these components together
help determine how much pay the driver will receive during the summer –
when they are not driving!
We are currently seeking three drivers for regular
school bus routes for the coming 2007 – 08 school year. For any
candidate that is fully licensed and ready to go by August 10 we will
pay a $500.00 signing bonus (paid 90 days after the first day of
school.)
